I'd be cautious about jumping into adopting an Akita - they're not for everyone and not for first-dog owners. You should definitely orient yourself with the breed before adopting and learn about the unique challenges of the breed - their strength, their protectiveness (my Akita Shmoo famously grabbed my mother's hand in his teeth and pulled her away when I started crying as she was changing me as a baby). Talk to breeders, read books about the breed before you buy, and be sure that the dog you adopt is one you can handle -- my parents bit off a little more than they could chew with a few of our Akitas.

Betsy, the interaction portrayed in the film is staged - a fiction. It was rehearsed (as you can see on Mitchell Block's Vimeo channel, which contains rehearsal footage) and even features end credits for the actors and a disclaimer at the end that reads:

"All Characters and incidents portrayed in this production are fictitious. No identification with actual persons, living or dead, is implied or should be inferred."

This credit appears at 15:17 of the Vimeo video above. Now, maybe it's just boilerplate, and I don't doubt that perhaps Block and his actors Shelby Leverington and Alec Hirschfeld drew on real experiences in the construction of this narrative, but as portrayed in the film, it is fiction.

Perhaps Mr. Block, who was so kind as to comment on my About Me page earlier, could shed light on this?

Brenden,

As I said, I'm a big fan of this blog. Speaking of the Levi's commercial, I kind of had the same reaction. This one in particular is my least favorite of the "Go Forth" Series. I like Fukunaga's America the best.

I really didn't like this and for a long time I couldn't realize why. It's true, that Hillcoat competely ripped off Malick, especially The New World. (I know I heard that song somewhere) and even the voice over sounds exactly like something "pocahontas" would say. It's strange because I have a lot of respect for Hillcoat, being a big fan of both the road and the proposition. I would expect something a bit more "original" from him?

Two thumbs down for me...

This film does nothing to deny the stereotype I have of the Icelandish that in times of yore young men would bring their fathers out to an ice floe so that they might die the honorable way.

Also, why is Patrick Stewart so grumpy?

I, too, think it's criminal that the woman holding breakfast in Ron Swanson's picture didn't get a nomination.

The best way I can articulate it is that I just really like the characters and spending time in their world for thirty minutes a week. It's not always the funniest show, and it turns deadly unfunny whenever Ken Jeong is on-screen, but it's got moments of really perfect absurd humor and a tremendous amount of heart and regard for its characters.

That said, the season finale was really bad, mostly because the show's creators have this notion that the viewers are invested in some sort of Jeff-Britta-Annie love triangle that we aren't. It's like when The Office gets really awful with Jim and Pam Episodes.
