Richard Brody on the late cinematographer William Lubtchansky.

Matt Seitz and Amanda Marcotte spar on superheroes. I have a lot of thoughts on the subject, and I'll write them out as soon as I finish this post.

This is why you take Boltbus.

Would-be revolutionaries drop out, dance to "This Time Tomorrow," shot by Lubtchansky, from Philippe Garrel's Regular Lovers:

RIP.

I love this Consumerist post, because I've been screwed over by franchisers refusing to honor the Subway $5 Footlong deal for 'specialty subs' (ie, subs with more than one type of meat), and because the dynamic between Brad and his equally Subway Club-obsessed friend is absolutely hilarious.

I want to eat this breakfast pizza.

Also, everything on this page.

Petition for Jafar Panahi

Not that I think online petitions have much impact, but here's one, and you should sign it. I know a lot of the people who read this blog are other film bloggers, so if you want to spread the word to your readers and friends, I think it'd be a good thing.

Richard Brody puts in his two cents on the An Education controversy - For what it's worth, as much as I love Brody, I think he's totally off on this one. He rightly says 'duh' to the notion that a character can be Jewish and a bad dude, but then he asks for the filmmakers to provide an on-screen example of a 'good Jew' - as though that wouldn't be patronizing to the point of confirming the anti-Semites' prejudices.

Mentioned on this blog a few weeks ago and fresh from Sundance, Rodney Ascher's experimental documentary The S from Hell, about logophobia, modernist design and music, and the subtle effects of Cold War tension (warning to the squeamish about bugs and snakes - it gets a bit heavy near the end):
